X-Men: Credits where it’s due

I watch credits. Credits to films, credits to computer games, occasionally credits to TV programs (tho’ I see those every epoisode so they’re usually on fast-forward). It’s not really out of interest in the industry (“Oh, Stephen Chan was Production Assistant – he’s very good. I liked his work on White Chicks.”). It’s more of an idle curiosity, and a feeling that a) I owe it to the people responsible for my entertainment, and b) I want to get my money’s worth.

So it’s a good thing when us credits-watchers are rewarded. Watch the credits in Fahrenheit and you’re rewarded with 200 points with which to buy making-of movies and soundtracks. Films like Airplane reward you throughout the whole thing, with joke entries in the credits. Solaris rewarded you simply by having more of Cliff Martinez’ superb soundtrack.

Last night Catherine and I went to the cinema to see X-Men: The Last Stand. We found the first two films enjoyable, and me being a software engineer it’s kinda compulsary to see the latest batch of Superhero films. As soon as the credits started the majority of the audience upped and left. A handful of people, maybe two dozen out of the cinema-full, stayed. Then, as the “soundtrack is available on…” text rolled off the top of the screen, people started to leave again. This was quickly replaced by the sounds of bums hitting seats and a cinema of people going “ooh” as the final scene appeared. Yes. The final scene comes after the credits. Most people didn’t even see this part of the film because they’re too eager for a toilet visit, or just too impatient to sit through the pages of text.

So to all those who walked out of the cinema before the credits ended, I’d just like to point out that I know what happened, and you don’t. Justice for the patient!

    Nuts.

I often sit through the credits for stuff like that (my favourite was the Darth Vader breathing at the end of Phantom Menace), but didn’t for this one. When the cinema staff come in to clean it feels awkward to make them wait for you to leave.

What happened? It doesn’t seem to tell you over at IMDB.

I say sod it. Make them wait. It’s their job, and they’ve nothing better to do.

As for what actually happened – well, I couldn’t possible tell you here as it may spoil it for others (ha, as if anyone else reads this blog).
I’ll email you if you really want to know.

How did you figure out my secret identity?

Do you think we’re the only 2 people who read our blogs? That’s very, very sad.

    SHIT!!!

I have seen recently X-Men3 and iircw the cinema opened the lights and fade out the film when the credits started to appear. Some cinemas in greece do this I think because nobody cares about the comments. Stupid! Or is it that my friends left the place and I had to follow? I don’t remember but I must have missed the final part for any of these reasons..

Mmm,.. now I remember well maybe I had seen the final scene. Was it the one with the chess pawn?

But I recall even some cinemas (greek tv does this regurarly and other shit) fading out when the credits appear and people leaving the place. Except from credits where there is something to see.

Sorry Optimus, but there is another scene after the credits, not the one with the chess scene.
To be honest I don’t think anyone in the cinema was expecting it that late in the film.

As for cinema’s fading out the credits – that happens a lot on TV over here in England, but in the cinema…? That sucks.
